Are you smarter than a 5th grader? Let’s see…what is so special about September 21st?
September 21, is the day declared by the United Nations General Assembly, as International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace day, a day devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideas of peace both within and among all nations and peoples. To inaugurate the day, the “Peace Bell” is rung at the UN Headquarters in New York City.
This year also happens to be the 30th anniversary of World Peace Day and the United Nations Peace Day theme for this year is “Peace and Democracy: make your voice heard.
Global Peace Day events and celebrations were held all over the world. Peace organizations offered cultural events that included school activities, music concerts, Peace Day comedy, prayer vigils, Peace doves, live internet streaming video and much more.
So yesterday a small group of us decided to gather on the UCONN campus in Storrs Connecticut to give FREE hugs! We held our signs high and at people passing by and it was truly amazing how open people were to giving and receiving hugs. It was one of the most moving experiences I have had this year and I’m truly grateful I joined in.
Here are some images I wanted to share with you of our afternoon of giving hugs…For FREE!
Have you hugged someone today? If not, stop right now and go give someone a hug! PEACE.
And in that single heart beat it the unity of love proclaimed and given welcome.” ~ACIM
